Reading Your Report

Improving your credit report is impossible if you don’t even know what you are looking for. It’s also important that you learn to identify common errors and opportunities to improve your score. If you don’t yet have a copy of your report it is important that you get a copy before continuing. Credit Karma and other free online credit reports are great, however, they do not contain account numbers.

While there are many different formats of credit reports they are typically not too difficult to read once you familiarize yourself. In this chapter we will take a look at some reports so you can confidently go through your report and identify all possible opportunities to improve your score! We will take some immediate action on personal information discrepancies. We will also learn to identify other detrimental and derogatory items that we will provide letters for challenging in the later chapters.

Removing unauthorized or unrecognizable inquiries is an important step in the process to optimizing your credit. Remember, an inquiry could hurt you up to 5 points. The following letters will help you remove the inquiries that do not belong on your report.
